Office Staff:

       

Nolan Swartzentruber, Superintendent, is the senior administrator and reports to the Chairperson of the Dehcho Divisional Education Council. He is responsible for providing information, advising and implementing Council policy and directives. As well, he is responsible for ensuring that policy, directives and approved curricula of the Minister for Education Culture and Employment are followed. Other duties and responsibilities are specified in the Education Act.

David Fiebelkorn, Comptroller, is responsible for the overall financial management of the Council. This includes budget development and monitoring, financial planning and reporting to Managers, Principals, the Council and Government. Dave also maintains accounting and computer systems, oversees purchasing, contracting and procurement, and advises on financial and payroll/benefit matters. The Comptroller is also responsible for liaison with District Education Authority's Secretary-Treasurers.

Shirley Villeneuve, Administration Officer, is responsible for preparing expenditure and payroll documents for payment, data entry and cheque processing for expenditures and payroll. Other responsibilities include arranging charter flights, distribution of payroll and maintaining files for expenditure and payroll and data entry for employee leave.

Sandra Tanche , Personnel Officer, is responsible for maintenance of the Human Resource system, Personnel files and data entry. Since many of these functions have recently been transferred to the GNWT Service Centre, she will take a more active role in day-to-day assignments within the finance department to include preparation and distribution of purchase orders, preparing payment documents for data entry, as well as data entry of journal entries.

Cathy Nahanni, secretary/receptionist, is accountable for the organization and daily operation of the general office. She directs mail and telephone calls and individuals visiting the office. She assists with the distribution of materials and supplies. Other diverse duties include arranging travel and accommodation, scheduling of meetings and conferences, completing tasks such as recording, filing and typing, organizing general office procedures and ensuring that numerous miscellaneous tasks are attended to for schools and Council staff .

Sharon Herring maintains the Resource Centre where her responsibilities include development of multi-media education kits, sending, receiving and arranging for transport of kits and materials to the schools, assisting with audio dubbing, laminating, binding documents for schools and Council office, locating materials and providing ideas for specific topics. She assists in a variety of ways during meetings and education functions at the office and upon request offers music programming support to schools.

Frank Gu, Technology Manager, manages and maintains the infrastructure (DCN, network servers, computers, photocopier, telephone system, fax machines, etc.) for the information systems in all Dehcho Schools and the Council office. He sets up new and maintains existing networks in schools and assists computer teachers in the schools with installation of software programs and any other technical associated work.

 

Barry Church, Consultant, offers support for special needs students as well as curriculum and programming assistance to the general student population at the secondary level . He is in a position to provide current information on the specifics of Student Assessment Evaluation & Reporting (SAER), Career Development, Secondary Programming Alternatives (Pathways), and Effective Behaviour Support (EBS). Barry continues to oversee student/enrolment data collection and the Dehcho Home Boarding/Residence Program.

Tracy Waugh, School Counsellor, provides direct support to the students, families and teaching staff of schools within the division. Activities include providing information around social and emotional issues to families and staff, intervention focused on facilitating positive relationships between students, educators, families and the community, and individual and small group counselling to help to ensure that emotional and social needs are being met in order to achieve success. She works closely with Health and Social Services in efforts to support students and their families.

Brian Jaffray, Consultant, provides support and training to staff and students in the use of computer software programs. Brian is a member of the Curriculum Committee that meets several times each year. Brian provides curriculum support to schools in the areas of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Health for grades K-9 and the Information Technology Curriculum (ITC) for grades K-12. Other areas of interest are his membership on the NWT Heritage Fair Society and the John Tsetso Memorial Library Board.

Andy Norwegian , Consultant, works at the Teaching and Learning Centre, focusing on promotion and enhancement of the Dene Language and culture. As a language specialist, he translates and edits written Slavey, and ensures that the standard writing system is followed within the region. Curricula, support documents and resources are produced to this end. Aboriginal Language Specialists are offered professional development opportunities through courses offered.

 

Fanny Swartzentruber, Consultant, also works at the Teaching and Learning Centre, the goal of which is to support Slavey language and Dene culture-based programs in schools. Fanny is also a member of the Curriculum Committee and focuses on Language Arts K-9.
